Why some of our pieces get a second life

I wanted to tell you a little more about our Imperfectly Perfect pieces. If you've seen them in the shop and wondered what that means, they're pieces we've made and checked here in the studio that have small cosmetic imperfections. They still work as they should, but their finish doesn't meet the standard we use for our regular pieces.

We spend a lot of time looking over what we make. After the printing, cutting, sanding and finishing, there's still that last check before something goes into its box. Sometimes that's when we notice a surface mark and set a piece aside.

Still useful, just a little different

It might be a faint line on a printed piece, a small dent in the linoleum, or a mark in the finish. The stand still holds your phone, and the desk mat still gives you the same surfaces to work on. The difference is something you can see, rather than something that stops you from using it.

Throwing those pieces away never felt right to us. We'd already put the work into making them, and a small mark didn't change how useful they could be in someone's home. So we started offering them as Imperfectly Perfect, separately from our regular pieces, so you can decide whether those differences are something you're happy with.

I like knowing these pieces have another chance to be used instead of being wasted. That doesn't mean you have to love every imperfection. Some people don't mind a small surface mark, and others would rather choose a piece from our regular collection. Either is completely okay. I just want the difference to be clear before you choose.

When we have some available, you'll find them on our Imperfectly Perfect page, while supplies last. There are examples of the kinds of marks there, so please take a look before ordering. These pieces are final sale and can't be returned or exchanged.

If you do choose one, thank you for giving it a place in your home. It's nice to think that something we set aside during a studio check can still become a piece you reach for every day.
