Looking back

Finding our studio

New warm oak floors in the studio, February 2025

Hi friends, Maisy here.

When we first walked into this space in December, there wasn't much to look at beyond cement floors, cracked walls and a big empty room. But the windows were huge, and I could already imagine how different it would feel with warmer floors and our desks inside. It needed some TLC, for sure, but I was excited about it.

We made it ours at the end of January 2025. After about two years of making things at home, we'd reached the point where supplies and orders were taking over. We were packing on the living room floor, and it was getting harder to separate work from the rest of our lives.

That house is where my mom raised us, and I wanted it to keep feeling like home. Finding somewhere else for Cozyleigh wasn't just about having more room to work. It meant we could give the making its own place without losing what we loved about ours.

Way too many paint swatches

The first changes took about three weeks. I looked through so many paint swatches trying to find a creamy white I liked. Once we chose it and had the walls painted, the room already felt different.

Then we moved on to floor samples. We chose a warm oak to go over the concrete, because I loved how it looked beside the cream. Those two choices gave us somewhere to start with the rest of the space.

Every time we came back, we wanted to see what had changed. By the time the walls and floors were finished, bringing in the first desk felt like a real step toward the studio we'd been picturing.

The windows were still my favorite part. With the lighter walls and warmer floor, the daylight made it much easier to imagine spending our days here. There was plenty left to do, but it no longer felt like an empty room we were visiting.

Room to figure it out

At that point, what excited us most was having space for our creative projects. I also hoped we might eventually have small community events here. We weren't ready for that yet, but it was lovely to be somewhere we could even consider it.

These photos are from the beginning, before we'd worked out how every corner would be used. I'm glad we recorded it instead of waiting until everything was finished. Thank you for supporting what we were making at home and helping us reach this next part. There was a lot to figure out, and we were excited to get started.
