The Cozyleigh Ecosystem: How Our Pieces Fit Together

Cozyleigh desk mats and Zen MagSafe Charger Stands in the sunny studio

Hi friends, Maisy here.

I wanted to explain what we mean when we call our pieces the Cozyleigh Ecosystem. It's a way of putting a setup together around a base, with smaller pieces that snap onto it. You can use those pieces on their own, too, but I designed them with the idea that they could belong together.

When we began making desk accessories, I kept coming back to a Zen garden. I thought of the desk mat as the sand, giving the things placed on it a setting. For the charger stand, the MagSafe charger became the stone in the middle, with the stand's shape carrying the waves around it. That image helped me think about both how the pieces should look and how they should sit together.

Choosing a base

The Pro Desk Mat is the base for a desk setup. It has linoleum on one side and merino wool on the other, with a metal layer inside that the charger stand, puck and Fa tray snap onto. It's rigid and stays flat.

The Standard Desk Mat has the same two surfaces, but it rolls up and doesn't provide that magnetic connection. If you want to arrange the pieces on a desk mat so they snap into place, choose the Pro.

The Zen Tray gives those pieces a smaller base you can move around the house. It's inspired by the Korean soban, a small portable dining table traditionally used for one person's meal. We make ours from solid wood with a three-toned design, and finish and number each one in the studio.

What goes on top

The Zen MagSafe Charger Stand gives your phone an upright place to charge. It's weighted, and it holds an Apple MagSafe Charger, which you add separately.

The Zen MagSafe Charger Puck is the smaller option for charging your phone or compatible AirPods flat. It also holds a charger, and snaps onto the stand as well as either base.

The Fa (花) Stackable Trinket Tray is for things like rings, keys and earrings. Fa means flower in Cantonese, and the design has four petals. You can stack the trays and use one lid on top of the stack, rather than needing a lid for every tray.

There's another reference in the Fa tray that means a lot to me. Its lid is inspired by a gaiwan, the lidded tea bowl whose lid, bowl and saucer are associated with heaven, humanity and earth. In our arrangement, I think of the lid, tray and base in that same relationship. It's part of the idea behind the design, alongside the practical question of where your everyday things can go.

Where I'd start

I'd choose the base for the place you want to use it: a Pro Desk Mat for your main desk surface, or a Zen Tray for a smaller arrangement on a desk, nightstand or shelf. Then think about what you actually need there. It might be somewhere to charge your phone, or just a tray for the little things you take off at the end of the day.

You don't have to buy every piece to make it work. I like that you can start with something useful and change the arrangement as you figure out what suits you. The colors are there to have fun with, too, whether you prefer everything to match or enjoy putting a few different shades together.

You can explore the Cozyleigh Ecosystem here if you'd like to see the pieces. I hope this makes the connections a little clearer and helps you choose what's right for your space.
